Ever look at your dog, like really really look at your dog?

Black Lab SadfaceYeah, it sounds so wonderful to be a dog–no work, no stress, no responsibilities…But if you take a deep gander into their furry souls, often times you’ll see a lot of boredom pent up in there. They can go stir-crazy too, ya know.

Insert “Homemade” busy bones!!!!

These are the easiest dog treats that will keep ’em occupied for a little while, or at least until you have a moment to get them out for some fresh air. You do walk them every day, right?

PB Bone 2All you need is a few 2″-4″ Beef Marrow Bones and some all-natural peanut butter.

Simply give your pups the bones to chew/slurp the marrow out of, then fill ’em up again and again with peanut butter for them to eat and repeat. I use peanut butter that is just peanuts. There is no need for added salts and oils, especially when my boys get high-quality salts and oils in their homemade dog food that I prepare for them. <-Post to come soon!

PB Bone 3I like to throw these into the freezer for a few hours so the peanut butter hardens,  making it extra challenging (i.e. time-consuming) for them to enjoy.

Bear Hike 10-16 008That’s better!

The best oatmeal vessel e-v-e-r:

I hate to be a HLB copycat, but eating oatmeal from a nearly finished jar is sheer brilliance. I’d like to add that my obsession with oatmeal pre-dates my discovery of HLB’s. Just sayin’.

Before:

During:

After:

Okay, so I’m not completely done catching up. Tonight was spent entirely on filling out paperwork, copying, addressing, stamping, licking, sealing….blah, blah, blah…all in the name of changing my last name! Boy, is it a ton of work to get married! Divorce is out of the question; too much paperwork!

Anyways, before I crash, here are some “honorable mentions” from breakfast:

Asian pears are almost as dreamy as dark chocolate peanut butter. If you’ve never tried one you must run (fast!) to your local farmer’s market and buy as many as you can afford.

(By the way, purple nail polish is HOT.)

Another hot purple item: TAZO Earl Grey tea–my new favorite way to drink water. Also, a “must-try” for you.

And, yet another random tangent…this was extremely disappointing:

In its defense, dark chocolate peanut butter is a hard act to follow.

Oh, and while I’m on tangents, I want this!!:

Monday night Evan had to rush me to the ER. After meeting with our photographer to go over some last minute wedding details I started having a serious case of cold feet.

Just kidding…I began experiencing horrendous abdominal and chest pain. Being a female and having irritable bowel syndrome I am VERY familiar with cramping. Give me enough dairy and I’ll keel over with cramps. Or it could just be that time of the month, but in all my days of cramping I’ve never experienced pain in my chest. It was scary to say the least.

Hospitals don’t mess around with chest pain. I was rushed in immediately so the techs could take my vitals and triage me accordingly. Apparently, my ticker was working properly (albeit very slow with an athlete’s resting heart rate somewhere around 38 bpm) ’cause I had to wait f-o-r-e-v-e-r to be seen.

To make a very very long story short, after seeing a slew of doctors including a rheumatologist, several cardiologists, an internal medicine doc, an infectious disease doc, and I’m sure I’m forgetting some…my symptoms were all deemed related to the Lyme, the antibiotics I’m taking for said illness, and existing conditions I’m often/occasionally tormented with like IBS and depression/anxiety.

My stay included two nights with a couple doses of pain meds including morphine, several anti-spasmic pills for the GI symptoms, IV antibiotics twice a day, a couple of EKG’s, an ultrasound of my chest and another of my abdomin, TONS of blood tests (my arms resemble those of a junky), oh, and even some cranberry juice to ward off a urinary tract infection that was coming on.
My amazing fiance stayed at my bedside as much as I’d let him. Anything I wanted he made sure I had–plenty of reading material, clean clothes, a toothbrush, deodorant…etc…breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He even made my oatmeal for breakfast and brought the entire jar of White Chocolate Wonderful peanut butter for me to indulge in at my disposal. It’s obvious why I’m marrying this man!

All in all, I am back to feeling “normal,” which until I kick the Lyme is not 100%, but it sure feels good to be home.

With my wedding in three days I’m furiously trying to get back up to speed with the last minute details. My family will start arriving tomorrow afternoon! Things are getting pretty exciting around here. Hopefully, I’ll have more time for wedding updates tomorrow.
